The Flightstar II SC is the "flagship" of the Flightstar line-up.  It's a great two-place trainer, with plenty of power for short field takeoffs and strong climbs. With a fully-enclosed cockpit, you can comfortably fly all winter, and you can remove the doors to stay cool in the summer. With a 70 mph cruise speed, it's a great cross-country aircraft, too. The tricycle landing gear configuration makes taxiing, takeoffs, and landings much simpler than in tail-dragger aircraft. Below are the specifics of this particular aircraft.  A similarly-equipped Flightstar II SC ordered today would cost around $30,000, assuming $2,500 for assembly and not counting shipping charges (see the Flightstar Sportplanes web site).

The nose wheel struts were broken and the fiberglass nose fairing cracked in an off-field landing. The fiberglass struts sheared as designed (as the “weak links” in the nose gear assembly), and the nose fairing settled to the ground, cracking the fairing. The struts were replaced with factory parts, and the fiberglass damage was repaired. The plane is functionally as good as new. We’ve put plenty of hours on the plane since the repair. The only remaining signs of the incident are some fiberglass repair “scars” that are only noticeable up close.
